Midwest Honor Flight
June 7, 2022
We were invited to fly to Washington DC on the Midwest Honor Flight with a group of approximately 75 veterans…11 who served in WWII. The journey began on June 6 where a celebratory dinner was held for the honorees. Since the flight was out of Grand Rapids at the Gerald Ford International Airport, we had to be up and ready to go by 6am. On the flight, we witnessed incredible conversation with the veterans. Upon arriving at the airport, the veterans were treated like royalty as they departed the plane. We then boarded a bus and traveled to several sites throughout the D.C. area, including Arlington National Cemetery where we witnessed the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Among the other sites was the magnificent WWII memorial which overlooked the National Mall. Stunning to say the least, and a great spot for a large group picture. After completing all of our visits, we flew home and deboarded the plane before out veterans in order to catch the parade. The entire airport was filled with hundreds upon hundreds of people who celebrated our heroes. It was truly inspiring! We will certainly never forget our trip on this honor flight!
